  • Nyasem Khola-A Hydroelectric Project is located in Jugal Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk District, Province No. 3, Nepal. The site is located about 65 km northeast of Kathmandu and about 37 km north of Balephi Bazaar located along Araniko Highway.

Nyasem Khola is a major snow fed river and a major tributary of the Balephi River. Nyasem Khola originates from the southern flank of Phurbachyochu Himal, Kharane Pahad, and Bhairabkunda and the surrounding areas. Nyasem Khola meets Balephi Khola at a place called Nimatol, which is very close to the proposed powerhouse site for this project in the vicinity of Ambakharka Village. The project site lies between latitudes of 28000′58″ and 28002′05” North and between longitudes 85050′30″ and 85051′40″ East. The proposed headworks site is located about 10 km upstream from the confluence of Nyasem Khola and Balephi Khola. The powerhouse has been proposed to be located on the right bank of Lampokhari Khola about 5 km upstream from the confluence of Nyasem Khola and Lampokhari Khola.

Upper Nyasem Khola-A Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-river project and does not have a motorable access road at present. The nearest roadhead to this project is a gravel road at the Bolde Bazaar which is located at a distance of about 30 km from Balephi Bazaar located along Araniko Highway, which itself is located about 72 km from Kathmandu

    • The Upper Nyasem-A Hydroelectric Project is a run of the river (ROR) type hydropower project, located in Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk district of Province No. 3, Nepal. The Nyasem khola is a major tributary of the Balephi River which is one of the tributary of Indrawati River. Nyasem Khola at the proposed intake site has 40% dependable flow which is estimated to be 4.38m3/s and is adopted as the design discharge of the project. The water from 2 tappings (0.16m3/s and 0.20m3/s) and Nyasem has been conveyed via headrace tunnel to a surge tank where the tapping of 0.59m3/s from Lampokhari khola is added. The gross discharge of 5.33m3/s is conveyed to surface powerhouse for 21 MW generations with a gross head of 475.95 m via surge shaft and penstock pipe of length 933.91 m. Geographically, the project area is located in between Latitudes 27˚ 59’ 15” N and 28˚ 02’ 00” N and Longitudes 85˚ 50’ 30” E and 85˚ 51’ 40” E. The proposed weir site is located at approximately 15 km upstream of the confluence of Nyasem and Balephi Khola. The proposed powerhouse site lies at Elevation of about 2931.50 m on the right bank of Lampokhari Khola and is located 5 km upstream of Nyasem-Lampokhari confluence. Physiographically, the project area belongs to the Higher Himalayan in between 3360 m to 1950 m above mean sea level. The nearest roadhead to this project is a gravel road at the Bolde Bazaar which is located at a distance of about 30 km from Balephi Bazaar located along Araniko Highway, which itself is located about 72 km from Kathmandu.
